Imara Uganda Team Norman Horsley

Norman Horsley MBE

Co-founder and Patron 

Norman has a background in business management. He was managing director of Hazard Management Ltd. He has been involved in charity work for many years including being a member of the council of a charity organising community support groups for 8 years, 6 of which he was company secretary. Norman stood down from active involvement with Imara in September 2022 but he is still patron and a strong supporter.

Jackie Horsley


Jackie is married to Norman. She was involved with the charity from its inception and has been a wonderful hostess for many of the charity meetings held in her home. Jackie stood down from active involvement with the charity in 2021 but she continues to be a strong supporter.

Belinda Maclean

Co-founder, Chairman and Trustee

Belinda spent much of her childhood in Kenya and 3 years of her teaching career in Ethiopia. She has been visiting Uganda regularly since 2009. Belinda is a retired primary school head teacher.

Sylvia Walker Imara Uganda Team

Sylvia joined Imara-Uganda Education Fund in 2011 and became a trustee visiting the children in Uganda regularly with Belinda. During her nursing career, she gained valuable experience through her work with a UK charity setting up hospice homecare in Romania.

Treasurer and Trustee

Roger is a clergyman retired from Parish work but still active conducting services. He joined Imara in early 2020 and became Treasurer and subsequently a Trustee. He married fellow Trustee, Sylvia, on 11th July 2020 (They met in church, rather than through Imara). He has no links to Uganda, but is good with money!

Pamela Newnham, Membership Secretary

Pam is a retired secretary. She became secretary of Imara-Uganda Education Fund when it was first registered in 2011.

Marielyn Wood, Minute Secretary

Marielyn worked as a conveyance secretary for various solicitors until her retirement. She has been a supporter of Imara-Uganda Education Fund for many years.

“I am a Communications professional who is passionate about social justice and I enjoy using my skills to help promote the great work the charity is doing in Uganda.”

“Having worked for many years in the commercial sector, I enjoy using my business skills to help support the charity.” David is married to Emma and they have two little boys.

We work in partnership with Itinga Charity Education Foundation (ICEF), a new Ugandan NGO started by a former Imara scholar, Acen Kevin, and  a team of Ugandans whose skills and careers cover Finance and Accounting, Education, and Administration.
